Volleyball

The volleyball program here at Greenwood Academy has seen a significant jump this year with girls from Grades 5-9 wanting to become a part of a growing sport within the central area. Our coaches, Ambrose Cross, Jody Cosh and I  have put a lot of time into developing what has become a talented group of players. This year, plans are to have a Grade 5-6 team, a Grade 7 team, as well as a junior high team consisting of Grade 8 and 9 players. The teams have been practicing twice a week since school resumed and have been sharpening their skipped for fall as they have a number of tournamnets that they are registered to attend.  Cosh is impressed  with the interest that has been shown at the school for the sport of volleyball. Most of the interest is coming from the girls and hockey has been the dominant sport for the boys.  In the coming weeks Newfoundland and  Labrador Volleyball Association instructed Bruce Andrews will be making the trip to Greenwood Academy to conduct some clinics on skill development with the players based on four stages. At the end of the fourth stage, the players should have a better knowledge of the game and should have their skills further developed.  It will be a busy fall for the Greenwood girls as they will play in the Volley-fest tournament in St.John's on October 30th and 31st as well as volley central tournament scheduled for November 6th and 7th. They will then clue up a busy ,onto by participating in then 15-Under tournament in Grand falls-Windsor on November 20th and 21st. Greenwood will also get their taste of hosting an event as the will be inviting team to their pre-bantam provincial tournament in March.

  1. Awesome job, Holly! This is a great way to keep the parents/guardians up to date with extra curricular activities.
